Marit Strømøy finished 2nd in the F1 H2O World Championship race of Abu Dhabi. After a great start where she defended her qualifying position, it was 52 long and hard laps to the finish line. The gap to Philippe Chiappe in 1st was between 2 and 4 seconds all throughout the race. - I tried to push for first all the race, but Philippe was a bit too fast. However this feels nearly like a victory and it's so nice to be back on the podium, says Marit.
In the free practice in the morning Marit made the fastest laptime 0,56 seconds in front of Alex Carella. - We´ve had a great progression all throughout the weekend and in all the sessions we've been fast, says mechanic Craig Bailey.
Marit had a great start off the dock and turned second at the first turnbuoy, only a boatlenght behind Chiappe. There was a big accident further down in the field already in the second corner and the race went straight to yellow flag. In the restart Carella was up alongside of Marit, but she pulled off on the first long straight.
From there to the finish Marit chased Chiappe and was never giving up on a possible victory. She finished the 45 minute long race only 2,5 second behind in 2nd place. - I´m very happy for this result. My team and my boat have been working fantastically all weekend, says Marit Strømøy.
Next race is already next week as the teams are heading to Sharjah already on Sunday. Sharjah is the place where Marit took her first F1 victory two years ago. Follow us for another exiting week of F1 H2O powerboating!
