Marit Strømøy and her team had a great run in Abu Dhabi today and qualified 2nd only 0,06 second behind the man in pole Philippe Chiappe. - This was our best qualifying since 2011 and we are very happy with this result although a pole would taste even better, says Marit from Abu Dhabi.
Already in yesterday´s free practice the Marit was fast and she followed up this morning with a 7th in free practice, not too far off the fastest drivers. In Q1 she quickly set a good lap what took her to 3rd in the first qualifying session.
Q2 was a nail biting session as the top 8-9 drivers were fighting hard for the top six spots all the way to the end. Three minutes from the finish it looked like Marit was out of the run, but then she got a good lap in and finished Q2 on 5th.
When the top six drivers got two laps each alone on the circuit, the Baba boat showed it's true potensial and Marit climbed to 2nd. Only 0,06 seconds off the defending World Champion Philippe Chiappe from Team China. Alex Carella from Team Abu Dhabi came in third.
Tomorrow at 15.30 local time we will see who will take the checkered flag. Marit is starting in between two drivers fighting for the World Championship title. Watch us live at www.f1h20.com and follow us on instagram/f1marit
